Karen Sheldon Training (KST) was approached by NT Major Events to source staff to host the 2021 Merne Desert Dinner at the Parrtjima Festival. The Merne Desert Dinner is an unforgettable dining experience set amongst the backdrop of the beautiful night sky and Parrtjima light installations in Central Australia. NT Major events were looking for local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to represent the culture and land highlights throughout the event.
Karen Sheldon Training coordinated the training and recruitment of 20 previous graduates from the Future Stars Indigenous Employment Program, plus Karen Sheldon Group support staff. They underwent three days of intensive hospitality training at IAD, where they brushed up on their table service, drink service, set up, pack down, and customer service skills.
The event provided a great experience and confidence boost for the Future Stars Participants, some of which had never had a job before. The participants took great pride in hosting the event and really enjoyed working closely with their KST mentors and trainers.
Karen Sheldon Trainer, and Festival Guest Presenter; Rayleen Brown says “I have really enjoyed watching the participants on their journey of self-determination. They have worked very hard to get to be a part of this amazing opportunity and I could not be prouder of them.”
