The Karen Sheldon Group (KSG), comprised of Karen Sheldon Catering and Karen Sheldon Training, works to promote and pursue employment and training opportunities for Indigenous Territorians, particularly those most disadvantaged and suffering intergenerational trauma and poverty. With a ‘boots on the ground’ approach, we live by the ethos that “a person with a job is a person with a future” because we understand that a job is one of the key social determinants of a healthy person and a healthy community.
Karen Sheldon Training is a division of Karen Sheldon Group and has operated as a Registered Training Organisation (RTO: 70045) since 2008. Our training programs are carefully designed to be responsive to industry and employer needs. Committed to working towards Closing the Gap on Indigenous economic disadvantage, our focus is on influencing change by inspiring, training and mentoring Indigenous jobseekers to take their true place in the Australian economy. This is successfully done by bringing together students willing to make significant changes to their lives, and employers wanting to be part of the change.
From paddock to plate, KSG is passionate about incorporating bush foods harvested and supplied by Indigenous Territorians. KSG has invested over $300,000 in research and development in the past 5 years involving bush foods. There are incredible bio prospecting opportunities for these bush foods and KSG works with and towards Aboriginal Territorians being front and centre of this growth, benefitting culturally and financially from the growth. That is why Aboriginal wild harvested bush foods feature in our menus so often!
